Thanks to National Lottery Heritage funds, our Bath-based neighbours The Natural Theatre Company have been busy delivering a project series known as Hidden Heroes.
Hidden Heroes is a community heritage event; an opportunity to share the inspiring stories of people from different local areas. The events celebrate people’s achievements throughout history, as well as providing a platform to anyone making an outstanding impact in their community today.
In the Filton area, The Natural Theatre Company researched the interesting and untold stories from the past, with help from Aerospace Bristol and Bristol Archives. Five local heroes were then nominated to be cast into the spotlight. On Saturday 15th April, friends and families gathered in Filton Community Garden for a theatrical delve into the lives of the chosen five. Click the following links to learn more!
A member of The Natural Theatre Company shared: “The celebration day itself was a glorious window of sunshine during a very wet April! The gardens looked beautiful and made the perfect backdrop to bring the stories alive, with performance and interactive activities for all the family. We are extremely grateful to FACE for attending the event, as well as being a key liaison with the local community in the run up to the event.”
As well as commemorating history, nominations were gathered for current Hidden Heroes in the Filton area. Shortlisted current heroes will have photographic portraits taken, to be showcased in a final exhibition as well as displayed online.
The Natural Theatre Company have additionally been facilitating workshops with schools and community groups (including FACE) to support young people to bring the heroes’ stories alive using theatre and photography.
